Toy Drive: On Wednesday, August 8 from 11-2 pm, we’re having an Eid toy drive for underprivileged children living in our area. It will be held at the main IRUSA office at 3655 Wheeler Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304. This is an event for the whole family, so bring your children and an unopened, unwrapped gift with a price of about $20 – we will wrap the gifts together and provide goody bags for the kids. Additionally, if you can’t make it but you want to participate, you can either mail or drop off a gift at the IR headquarters. We want to make this a big event, so please Facebook/Tweet your friends to let them know about this. If you have questions, please contact me (Ian) at email@example.com for more information.
Giving Grain Food Pantry: We have very recently opened a food pantry in Washington, DC (at the Islamic Heritage Museum at 2315 Martin Luther King Ave SE) and have a number of ways that you can help:
- Volunteer to work at the food pantry! We need volunteers on the first and third Saturday of every month, so come on by and give us a hand! Please contact Minkailu Jalloh firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
- We’re having a food drive! If you can help with a gift of nonperishable food items and other items for underprivileged families, we would really appreciate it. Some of the items we need include rice, pasta, flour, dried beans and lentils, diapers (all sizes), baby formula and food, household goods (soaps, detergents), hygiene products, and lightly used clothes. Please drop off these items during working hours at Islamic Relief headquarters (3655 Wheeler Avenue, Alexandria, 22304) or at the Giving Grain Food Pantry on the first and third Saturday of each month. This is an ongoing event.
- There will be an Iftaar dinner for our volunteers on August 9th at the food pantry. Please RSVP at email@example.com and let us know how many people will be coming.
